Illinois QC housing authorities score HUD grants

Housing authorities in the City of Moline, and Henry and Rock Island counties, will get a share of $860,000 in federal housing grants recently announced for northwest and central Illinois.

The money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Family Self-Sufficiency Program is aimed at helping families. HUD grants targeted for the Quad Cities region include:

  • Housing Authority of Henry County: $131,224
  • Rock Island County Housing Authority: $68,972
  • Moline Housing Authority: $62,000

“Every family deserves access to safe, affordable housing and opportunities to grow in their community,” U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos, D-Moline, said in announcing the awards.  “Across Northwest and Central Illinois, these grants will help hardworking families reach their financial goals.”

The grants will fund services such as child care, transportation, education, job training, employment counseling, financial literacy and homeownership counseling to improve upward mobility for local families, Rep. Bustos’ office said in a news release.

HUD’s Family Self-Sufficiency Program enables families to increase their earned income and reduce their dependence on welfare assistance and rental subsidies. A fact sheet on the Family Self-Sufficiency Program can be found here
