Iowa-based Hy-Vee has been voted the Best Grocery Store in America in the latest USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.

The grocery chain, with locations across the Quad Cities and beyond, won the top spot among the most-loved grocery stores in the country. This marks the first year Hy-Vee has ranked No. 1 on the list. In previous years, the company has ranked within the top three spots.

From the 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, Hy-Vee was also voted America’s Best Grocery Store for Produce and ranked the No. 2 Best Grocery Store for Prepared Food in the nation

Founded nearly 95 years ago, Hy-Vee said it has become known for its superior service and commitment to quality, variety, convenience, healthy lifestyles and culinary expertise. Operating more than 570 business units across the U.S. today, it is one of the largest employee-owned companies in the nation.

Hy-Vee, Inc. has operations across nine Midwestern states with sales of more than $13 billion annually. Hy-Vee also ranks in the Top 5 Most Trusted Brands. The company’s more than 75,000 employees provide “A Helpful Smile in Every Aisle” to customers every day.

The USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards is conducted annually. A panel of experts nominates 20 grocery stores as the best in the U.S. for their offerings, selection and great service. USA TODAY readers then are encouraged to cast their votes during a 28-day voting period. The nominated stores receiving the most votes are designated as the Readers’ Choice for their category.

The only other two Choice Awards winners with a Quad Cities presence are: ALDI, with multiple stores in the local market, came in at No. 6 on the list; and Fresh Thyme Market, with a store in Davenport, came in at No. 10.
