LECLAIRE – A wide variety of sub sandwiches are on the menu at a new restaurant in this community.

Goldie’s Deli opened for business on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 701 N. Cody Road on the back of the Riverview Roadhouse. It is now open seven days a week from  11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The phone number is (563) 289-2205.

“We’re just getting our feet under us. … It’s been going great. The community support has been fantastic,” said Kyle Sager, owner of Goldie’s, which features many types of sandwiches and homemade bread.

He added that so far, the best-selling sandwich on the menu is called “The Gustav,” which is named after Mr. Sager’s grandfather. That sandwich includes turkey, pepperoni, salami, capicola, provolone and Goldie’s sauce.

Some of the other best-selling sandwiches on the menu include:

    • The Morty – ham, pepperoni, salami, capicola and provolone.
    • The Irving – turkey, ham, bacon, cheddar.
    • The Sheldon – bacon, lettuce and tomato.
    • The Myron – roast beef, turkey, ham, provolone.
    • The Seymour – tuna salad and provolone.
    • The Gertrude – all veggies.

The six-inch sub sandwiches cost $11. The 12-inch sandwiches cost $18.

In addition to Ms. Sager, Goldie’s has two employees.

Even though Goldie’s Deli just opened for business a few weeks ago. Mr. Sager  said he is already planning some changes. Those changes center on adding items to the menu. New items will include some hot sandwiches and salads, he added.

The new sandwich shop has been getting praise from the community.

“I’ve seen all good comments about Goldie’s Deli. It’s great adding more dining options upriver from the immediate downtown, especially since the shopping district is expanding that direction. Plus, it’s another dining option with a wonderful river view,” said Cindy Bruhn, LeClaire tourism manager.

During a recent Facebook post, Mr. Sager, who has about 15 years of experience in the sandwich restaurant business, said it has been his longtime dream to open his own business. That dream has now come true with a lot of support from the community.
“I appreciate all the support you have given me,” he added.
