Ex-offenders invited to “A Path to your Future” event

IowaWORKS ex-offenders

IowaWORKS in partnership with the 7th Judicial System – Community Corrections Court Services, will host “A Path to Your Future,” an informational event about the next phase of ex-offenders on Thursday, April 25.

The ex-offender event brings back those who have been incarcerated to learn about financial literacy, how to interview for a job and training resources. It is offered through the Second Chance Program for ex-offenders. Since 2008, the Iowa Department of Corrections along with the governor’s office and other organizations have received more than $1.6 million in Second Chance Act grant funds.

“A Path to Your Future” will be from 1-3 p.m., Thursday, at the 7th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services facility, 605 Main St. in Davenport. It will provide a motivational environment with information on finances, training opportunities and community resources. There will also be free interview clothing available for ex-offender attendees.

Participants can then attend the mock Interview event from 1-3 p.m., Friday, April 26, also at 605 Main St. Free haircuts will be provided by the New Style Hair Academy, Moline.

“These events are important to reduce recidivism and help obtain and maintain employment,” said Lurdes Torres, IowaWORKS Offender Workforce Development specialist-career planner. “We hope to provide the tools needed to help them become self-sufficient.”
