Empower House hosts 5K run and fun this weekend

Empower House will hold its 2nd Annual Spooktacular on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Quinlan Court in Downtown Davenport.

The fun, which includes a 5K, food trucks, live music, kids activities and a vendor fair, is the largest fundraiser for Empower House. The nonprofit has created a community to provide empowerment for a more purposeful life for those who have suffered a brain injury. As Iowa’s only brain injury clubhouse, it serves adults 18 and older who have any type of acquired brain injury (for example, from a stroke, fall, car accident or seizure).

The Davenport-based Empower House was founded by a group of rehab therapists with a desire to offer more services for brain injury survivors in the Quad Cities.

The 2nd Annual Spooktacular will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition to the race and festival environment, a vendor fair will feature 35 vendors providing a range of products and services including chair massages, baked goods, Lagomarcino’s caramel apples, beer from Front Street Brewery, handmade candles, artisan jewelry, homegoods and more. Live music will be provided from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. by Common Chord, formerly River Music Experience (RME).

The fall festival is free and open to the public, but registration is required for the 5K, which begins at 10 a.m. Runners and walkers alike are welcome to join the timed event and team participation is encouraged. Register online here

Quinlan Court is located at the intersection of Brady Street and River Drive. The 5K will take place along the riverfront bike path, beginning and ending at Quinlan Court.
