Donors can celebrate the holidays by giving blood and feeding the hungry at the same time through a partnership between ImpactLife and regional food banks including River Bend Food Bank.
In addition to supporting the region’s blood supply, throughout the month of December donors also will receive a voucher – presented by ImpactLife – to redeem for the donor’s choice of an electronic gift card or an equivalent value donation, ImpactLife said in a news release. The money will support food banks in the blood center’s four-state service region.
While the rate of blood donation may decrease during the holiday season the need for lifesaving blood components remains constant, the release said. The agency is urging all eligible donors to schedule an appointment to give blood at ImpactLife donor center or mobile blood drive this month.
Type O-positive, Type O-negative, and platelet donations from all blood types are especially needed. To schedule an appointment, call (800) 747-5401, visit www.bloodcenter.org or via the ImpactLife mobile app.
Through Dec. 31, all Quad Cities donors who give blood at ImpactLife donation centers and mobile blood drives will receive a voucher to support Davenport-based River Bend Food Bank’s Good Giving holiday promotion. The vouchers will assist River Bend in helping feed people in communities across western Illinois and eastern Iowa.
“This is such a wonderful partnership,” River Bend President & CEO Nancy Renkes said in the release. “We are extremely grateful to ImpactLife and their donors and love the creativity and philanthropic nature of this campaign. The best ideas are ones where everyone benefits, and this falls into that category.”
