A new DG Market is going into the former CVS Pharmacy building located at Five Points in Davenport.

Work crews are now converting the former drug store site at 1777 N. Division St. If all goes according to plan, the DG Market is expected to open this spring, Dollar General public relations staff told the QCBJ in an email on Monday, Feb. 26.

At this point, Dollar General officials said they could not give a more specific opening date because “construction progress may alter this (opening) date.”

The new DG Market store will feature a selection of fresh meats, fruits and vegetables, as well as the same categories, brands and products customers can buy at traditional Dollar General stores.

“Dollar General’s DG Market format offers expanded produce, refrigerated and frozen food offerings, dairy products and more,” according to a statement from the company.

Once open, the new DG Mart will employ 10 to 15 workers, Dollar General said.

Those interested in applying for a job at the new DG Market can go here. As of Monday afternoon, the company was looking to fill several job positions at the new store on Division Street including: store manager, assistant manager, lead sales associate and store clerk.

The site’s retail business building measures 15,827 square feet, and was built in 1999, according to the commercial property website Loopnet.

Until recently, that site was home to a CVS Pharmacy. In October, CVS officials announced the company would close two of its Quad Cities stores – one at 2250 41st St., Moline, on Nov. 29, and its store at Davenport’s Five Points on Thursday, Dec. 7.

In the earlier email to the QCBJ, CVS cited a variety of reasons behind the “difficult decision,” including local market dynamics, population shifts and a community’s store density.

Dollar General recently announced it has surpassed its latest milestone, now offering fresh produce options in more than 5,000 stores across the country. With this achievement, the company has more individual points of produce distribution than any other U.S. mass retailer or grocer. The company’s fresh produce offering includes a curated assortment of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, apples, strawberries, potatoes, sweet potatoes, lemons, limes, salad mixes, and more.

Dollar General opened its 20,000th store on Saturday, Feb. 24. That latest store is located in Alice, Texas.
