Deere economics leader headlines QCBJ Mid-Year Economic Review

July 11 event includes local business panel

Kanlaya Barr, John Deere’s director of corporate economics, will be the keynote speaker at the third annual Mid-Year Economic Review, hosted by the Quad Cities Regional Business Journal.  The luncheon program will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., Thursday, July 11, at Bally’s Quad Cities Casino & Hotel in Rock Island, with registration beginning at 11 a.m.

“If you want to better understand where the economy is headed there is no better event than the QCBJ’s annual Mid-Year Economic Review event,” said John Lohman, CEO and president of the Corridor Media Group, which publishes the QCBJ. 

He added: “We have an amazing panel of business leaders in leading indicator industries who will share insight into their industries, and an economist from John Deere who will give a broader perspective on the national economy.”

The 2024 Mid-Year Economic Review will lead off with the keynote address by Ms. Barr, who in her role at John Deere manages a global team of economists and oversees all facets of economic analysis including agriculture and construction fundamentals and short- and long-range industry forecasts for Deere. 

Over her more than a decade with the Moline-based manufacturing giant, she has held a variety of roles including: forecast analyst, manager of forecast analytics, agricultural economist, and global economist. 

Ms. Barr received her doctorate degree in agricultural economics and a master’s degree in accounting from Iowa State University, Ames. Prior to joining Deere, she had roles with multiple financial organizations serving as derivative analyst, financial analyst and market risk analyst. 

In addition, the Mid-Year Economic Review will include a panel of these Quad Cities area business leaders:

The panel will be moderated by Steve Sorensen, the owner of Strategy in Progress, LLC, who brings 35 years of consulting experience working with businesses and nonprofits.
