Davenport Police host annual toy drive this weekend

The Davenport Police Association will host the 21st annual Christmas Toy Drive this weekend to support Family Resources Inc

To join the cause, bring new toys or monetary donations to the drive, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, in front of the JCPenney store at NorthPark Mall, Davenport. Additional drop-off sites include: Chuck’s Tap, 1726 W. Sixth St., Davenport, and the Davenport Police Station, 416 N. Harrison St.

The police department launched the event in 2002 after Family Resources’ offices were burglarized right before Christmas and toys and funds were stolen, according to a news release from the Davenport Police Association. The event raises money and collects new toys each year for Christmas for children and families involved with Family Resources’ Domestic Violence Shelters and other programs.

Chuck’s Tap, in conjunction with 7G and Coca-Cola, also will host a “Fill the Truck” event from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9.
