Lego League is this weekend at Putnam

Quad City Engineering & Science Council

The Quad City Engineering & Science Council will hold a FIRST (For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology) Lego League robotics qualifying event on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 9-10, at the Putnam Museum and Science Center.

A total of 62 teams from 24 communities have built robots and prepared presentations to compete for awards and a chance to advance to next-level competitions, according to a news release from the Putnam

FIRST is a global organization focused on science, technology, engineering and math with more than 650,000 students involved internationally. Its Lego League robotics programs help students develop technical, team-building, leadership and problem-solving skills while fostering self-confidence, the release said.

This year’s challenge, “SUPERPOWERED,” asks students to focus on energy, explore the ways in which it’s essential to our lives and more.

Organizers hope to raise awareness of FIRST in the community in hopes of increasing student and volunteer interest and participation.
