A new and unusual “Curlee Girl” retail venture is “popping” up just in time for Quad Citians shopping for their Mother’s Day gifts.
Curlee Girl Gifts & More, a pop-up party business owned by Gwen Tombergs, will make its debut with its first party Thursday, May 1, at Crawford Brew Works, 3659 Devils Glen Road, Bettendorf. Shoppers are invited to pop in from 3-7 p.m. at Crawford. There they can browse and buy from a wide selection of Curlee Girls’ unique gifts and clothing.
“I’ve always admired what the Bling Bling Sisters did years ago with a fun, relaxed shopping experience that had items you can’t buy anywhere else,” Ms. Tombergs said of the former Bettendorf specialty store she often frequented.
“I also wanted to have pop-up parties in local establishments so it’s a win-win for both of us,” she said.
Many items available
Among the items available at her pop-up party will be one-of-a-kind denim jackets and shirts, decorated serving utensils, hostess gifts, jewelry and clothing.
Ms. Tombergs is no stranger to startup businesses having previously launched Fresh Start Living QC. The business assists clients, especially seniors, with downsizing to move or reorganizing and decluttering their homes.
She also currently is a senior advisor for LivWell Seniors. It’s a free service that helps seniors find the appropriate senior living community. Throughout her career, the Eldridge native has worked in marketing, sales, media relations and event operations.
With her latest business venture, Ms. Tombergs plans to hold Curlee Girl pop-up parties randomly. She will increase the frequency as demand increases.
The launch party will be held in the upstairs party room of Crawford Brew Works. Ms. Tombergs encourages attendees to grab a beverage, shop and then stay for dinner. Wine drinkers can bring their own bottle for a $10 corking fee.
