Black men’s health series set

An upcoming health event has the goal of helping Black men prevent heart disease.

“What’s Weighing on Your Heart? Answers to Your Questions About Heart Healthy Living” aims to help men understand their specific risks and take steps to address them.

It will be from 6-7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 630 9th St., Rock Island.

The event is part of the UnityPoint Health’s “Take Charge of Your Health” series.

“As the number one killer of Black men, heart disease cuts too many lives short,” said Dr. Teresa Pangan, community outreach coordinator for UnityPoint. “We want to reach men where they are today and help them make manageable, realistic steps toward improved heart health.”

During the event, Dr. Bouyella Reddy will explore risk factors such as family history, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes as well as answer questions with the help of moderator Thurgood Brooks.

To register, visit unitypoint.org/TakeCharge. Registration is limited to 50 people. Social distancing and masking will be enforced.
