Throughout October, Bettendorf Police are adding a touch of pink to their blue uniforms and they are urging the community to join them.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every year Bettendorf Police partners with the Pink Patch Project to help raise awareness and money for Genesis Health System’s Center for Breast Health and the UnityPoint Health Trinity Health Foundation.

The Pink Patch Project is a national public awareness campaign that creates vibrant pink versions of patches  on public safety employee uniforms. Pink patches are intended to stimulate conversation and encourage awareness of the importance of early detection and  the fight against breast cancer.

How you can help

Bettendorf Police are not the only ones who can support this cause. The public can also purchase a pink patch for $10, along with other merchandise. All of the proceeds from the fundraiser goes to the Genesis Center for Breast Health and the Trinity Health Foundation. That money will help provide free mammograms for those who are unable to pay for this potentially life-saving procedure.

This is the first year the pink patch showcases the new Interstate 74 Bridge. To order a patch and see other merchandise available for purchase, visit the Bettendorf Police Department at 1609 State St. Or find the items on the web here. The online store, created by LogoPro in Bettendorf, is open until Sunday, Oct. 15, at 11 p.m.

“We ask that you join the Bettendorf Police Department in helping us show support and bring awareness during the month of October for those in our community who have been personally affected by breast cancer,” Bettendorf Police Chief Keith Kimball said.

“All of us know someone in our lives who has been diagnosed with breast cancer and had the courage to fight it with the support of others.”
