Did you know a piece of trash discarded in a Bettendorf neighborhood can end up in the Gulf of Mexico?

Emmy Award-winning filmmakers Kelly and Tammy Rundle of Fourth Wall Films turned the lens on the Upper Mississippi Watershed in the Quad Cities region for their new documentary “Moved by Waters” and at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, they will present the film at the Bettendorf Public Library.

“Moved by Waters” is an uplifting and inspirational documentary that depicts collaborative projects involving organizations and diverse groups of students, teachers, artists, farmers, and volunteers of all ages. Setting aside political or other differences, all work toward improving the quality of water in the Upper Mississippi Watershed.

“Ultimately, we need clean water to survive,” said Amy Kay in the film, who is the City of Davenport’s clean water manager. “Not to be too doomsday-esque, but if we can’t work together for something that we need to survive, we’re in big trouble.”

“Every creature great or small has an intrinsic, innate value in and of itself,” said Dave Murcia in the film. “Mother Nature doesn’t need us, but we need Mother Nature. So when it comes down to clean water specifically, we are the one animal on this planet that pollutes its own environment.”

“Moved by Waters” was made possible by a grant from Roger Ross Gipple. During their presentation at the Bettendorf library’s Community Connections program, the Rundles also will screen their Emmy Award-winning short documentary “Over and Under: Wildlife Crossings,” followed by a conversation with the filmmakers themselves.

The Community Connections Program is open to the public and free to attend, thanks to the support of the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library.
