Bettendorf hosts fun Public Works Day Saturday

To kick off National Public Works Week, the City of Bettendorf’s Public Works Department will host its annual Public Works Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, May 20, at the Bettendorf Maintenance Center, 4403 Devils Glen Road.

The family-friendly event includes the chance to see the department’s trucks and machinery on display. Free hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, ice cream and soft drinks will be served. The event also will include kids’ activities, such as an inflatable obstacle course, snowplow blade painting, face painting and giveaways. Other interactive opportunities include riding the Bettendorf transit bus, making milkweed pods, learning about household hazardous materials and e-waste, and more, according to a news release.

“It’s important to celebrate our public works crews who work so hard each day to maintain and improve the systems and services vital to our community’s health, safety and comfort,” Bettendorf Public Works Director Brian Schmidt said in a news release.
