Bettendorf celebrates the season with Winter Carnival

Catch a case of cabin fever? Bettendorf has the cure and invites the community to come out Saturday, Feb. 1, for its annual Winter Carnival.

The event is organized with help of the Bettendorf Public Library, Family Museum, Bettendorf Parks & Recreation Department, Palmer Hills Golf Course, and The Landing Ice Rink.

There are inside and outside activities for all ages planned between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., with the showing of a family- friendly movie at 2:30 p.m:

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS 

At the Bettendorf Public Library, 2950 Learning Campus Drive

  •  Hourly Storytime (10:30 and 11:30 a.m.; 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.)
  •  Little Hands Site (activities for ages 5 & under)
  •  Snowman Suncatcher Craft
  •  Large Community Coloring Sheet
  •  Family-friendly movie at 2:30 p.m.

At the Family Museum, 2900 Learning Campus Drive

  • $5 Gallery Admission Special
  •  Free Activities:  Snowflake Stamping, Play with Pretend Snow and  Make a Snowman with Model Magic.

At The Landing newly opened ice rink, 2255 Middle Road

  •  $5 admission, $3 skate rental (or BYO)
  •  Activities Outside the Gates
  •  Frost Bite Fishin’
  •  Penguin Shuffleboard
  •  Snowball Sinker
  •  Pin the Nose on the Snowman.

At Faye’s Field, (weather permitting) 18th Street 

  • Snow Obstacle Course

At Palmer Hills Golf Course, (weather permitting) 2999 Middle Road

  • Sledding
  • Cross Country Skiing (limited ski rentals or BYO).

“Wintertime can be challenging to find activities the whole family to enjoy, so the Winter Carnival is a great opportunity to explore the many free and low-cost amenities the City of Bettendorf has to offer,” said Jillian Aschliman, the library director. “From ice skating and sledding to indoor art projects and games or cozying up with a pile of good books, the Winter Carnival has something to offer for everyone.”

Kim Kidwell, Bettendorf’s Culture & Recreation director, said the annual event offers tons of activities for all ages to enjoy indoors and outdoors. “The Family Museum, The Landing Ice Rink, Palmer Hills Golf Course, and the library are happy to host this event to help with winter boredom.”
