GENESEO, Illinois — “Double, double, toil and trouble,” Geneseo businesses will kick off the Halloween season with Witches Weekend and Scarecrow Row on Oct. 26-28.
From Thursday through Saturday, Witches Weekend shoppers and guests are invited into Geneseo businesses to celebrate Halloween and enter to win more than $300 in prizes and Geneseo Chamber gift certificates, which can be used at more than 100 Geneseo-based businesses. Winners will be drawn on Monday, Oct. 30.
The popular Witches Night Out celebration will kick off the weekend, running from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, at participating stores throughout Geneseo. The chamber, which sponsors downtown events throughout the year, urges attendees to dress up in a fun Halloween wardrobe to enjoy Geneseo with friends.
Many stores also will have door prizes and deals, including UpLoved, Wildflower Vintage & Thrift, Raelyn’s Pub & Eatery, Pegasus Fine Gifts, Four Seasons, Geneseo Brewing Company, Village Florist and Gifts, Pumpkins & Baby Bugs – A Baby Boutique, MIVA and more.
Make your own scarecrow
Visitors also are urged to join businesses and families in the Geneseo City Park to enjoy Geneseo’s Scarecrow Row. Anyone is invited to make a scarecrow for display, the chamber said. To participate visit Smith Studio and Gallery, 124 S. State St., Geneseo, to pick up a free wooden scarecrow starter frame and information sheets.
Bring your finished scarecrow to the Geneseo City Park between 9-10 a.m. Saturday. Every entry will receive a special ribbon, with Geneseo Chamber gift certificate prizes awarded to the top three scarecrows.
Then, come in costume to view the scary, exciting and weird creations from 10 a.m. to noon. Candy and Halloween treats from Geneseo businesses also will be distributed to children who visit Scarecrow Row. A free Halloween-themed photo booth will be set up at the bandshell. Scarecrows will be on exhibit until 4 p.m.
