The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, announced this week that the auxiliary lock located at Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley will open Friday, May 27, for recreational boating traffic.
Every weekend until Sept. 5, the lock will be open for recreational use on Fridays from 4-10 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from noon-10 p.m. In addition, the auxiliary lock will be open noon-10 p.m. on Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day holidays as well as until midnight Friday, Aug. 12, to assist recreational boaters attending the Tugfest activities and the fireworks display.
Due to construction activities on the lower guide wall downstream of the auxiliary lock, boaters are asked to use caution when approaching or departing the lock chamber. The lower guide wall walkway continues to be closed to the public. However construction is anticipated to be complete in mid-June and the area reopened for public access.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reminds all recreational users on or near the water, to wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket at all times.Â
