The Arconic Foundation donated a $30,000 state-of-the-art energized radiography lab, designed to simulate real clinical environments and improve hands-on learning, to Trinity College of Nursing and Health Sciences.Trinity students will gain practical experience using X-ray equipment while mastering positioning techniques and safety protocols. The lab provides a controlled environment. There students can build confidence and refine their skills before entering clinical settings, Trinity College of Nursing announced in a news release. "As a manufacturing plant, we understand the importance of skilled professionals in every field,” Jeffrey Weida, vice president of manufacturing at Arconic, Riverdale, said in the release. “Supporting hands-on training for nurses and radiographers aligns with our commitment to STEM education and community development. By upgrading this facility, we are helping ensure that students receive top-tier training in a safe and controlled environment that will eventually improve health outcomes for all.”
A significant step
Lacey Lake, MBA, is Trinity College radiography program director. “This represents a significant step forward in training the next generation of skilled health care professionals," she said. 'By offering a realistic environment for practice, we ensure students develop the technical proficiency and safety skills needed to excel in patient care from day one.”Radiographers play a crucial role in health care. They work alongside physicians to diagnose injuries and illnesses using medical imaging procedures such as X-rays, CT scans, MRIs and ultrasounds. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the field is projected to grow by 6% from 2023 to 2033. That outpaces the average for all occupations. “With this real-world immersive training, our graduates are fully prepared to provide high-quality care with patient safety as their top priority,” Trinity College Chancellor Tracy Poelvoorde said. The new radiography lab has been in use since Fall 2024. Twelve students are enrolled in the first-year cohort BS benefitting from the new technology.
