MLK Center to celebrate 50th anniversary

The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center (MLK Center) will host a 50th anniversary party and open house from 3-7 p.m. Friday, March 21, at 630 Ninth St., Rock Island.

This milestone event is an opportunity for the community to come together in celebration of 50 years of service, connection, and impact. The event has free admission and is open to all people. For further information, call (309) 732-2999.

A short program will begin at 4 p.m., highlighting the center’s history, community impact, and vision for the future.

The open house will feature

  •       Behind-the-scenes tours of the building and our new STEAM Lab.
  •       Treats and refreshments.
  •       A look back at 50 years of memories and milestones.
  •       Opportunities to connect with the community.

“For 50 years, the MLK Center has been a gathering place, a resource, and a source of inspiration for so many in our community,” said MLK Center Executive Director Jerry Jones. “We want to take this moment to celebrate our history, thank those who have supported us, and share our vision for the years to come. This event is about honoring our past while embracing the future together.”

The Martin Luther King Center programs currently include Substance Use Prevention; Teenage Pregnancy Prevention; Family Advocacy Center; free after-school and summer programs for children aged 6-14; a variety of clubs for people of all ages; free tax preparation assistance; four annual events for the community; and backbone support for the West End Revitalization.
