American Power Systems, Inc. (APS), based in downtown Davenport, has launched the Ultra Performance at Idle (UPI) series. This next-generation line of high output alternators provides more output across the board at both lower and upper RPM.
In addition, that increased power output at lower RPM means faster charging capability at lower speeds, including at idle, the vehicle power systems manufacturer announced in a news release.
Available in 48-, 24-, and 12-volt models, the UPI series offers six different configurations from 165 amps to 390 amps at output for all vehicles APS products serve. This includes the popular Ram ProMaster and Ford Transit, among other commercial and fleet vehicles including RVs, vans, motorcoaches, buses, shuttles and work trucks of all kinds.
“This is a game-changer in the ever-evolving mobile power market,” APS President & CEO Amy Lank said in a news release. “Our customers have asked for more power, and we’ve heard them loud and clear.”
As onboard electronics, safety systems, and auxiliary devices have multiplied, the need for more power and charging has increased to meet the needs of modern technology. While UPI high-output alternators offer more power at both ends of the RPM spectrum, they can start generating voltage at lower RPM. That translates to quicker battery charging. It also makes it possible to maintain optimal battery levels even during low-speed operations.
According to APS, this capability is especially useful for vehicles in an idling scenario or in city driving. By generating power earlier, it also helps keep the battery charged more efficiently. It also reduces the risk of undercharging. For technical specifications, visit APS’ website.
