The Last Picture House is holding an exclusive screening for A24’s upcoming thriller “Heretic,” and an in-person question-and-answer session with lead star Chloe East, alongside costumer designer Betsy Heimann and writer/director/producers and Quad Cities natives Scott Beck and Bryan Woods on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Tickets are now on sale to the general public at lastpicturehouse.com for the 6 p.m. screening to be followed by the Q&A session. A second screening will be at 8:45 p.m. with an introduction by the same guests.
“Heretic,” starring Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher, and Chloe East, features two young missionaries who become ensnared in a deadly game of cat and mouse when they knock on the door of the diabolical Mr. Reed. Trapped in his home, they must turn to their faith if they want to make it out alive. The film is rated R.
Heretic currently has a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film made its world premiere last month at the Toronto International Film Festival, with critics calling the film “Gorgeously made and wonderfully performed” (RogerEbert.com) and praising Hugh Grant’s performance: “Hugh Grant has never been so good” (Screen Rant).
The Last Picture House, a boutique cinema designed and developed by Hollywood filmmakers Mr. Beck and Mr. Woods, is located at 325 E. Second St. in downtown Davenport.
The pair burst onto the Hollywood scene with Paramount Pictures’ “A Quiet Place,” based on their original screenplay. The critically acclaimed box-office smash stars Emily Blunt alongside John Krasinski, who also directed.
Certified Fresh with a score of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, the film earned over $340 million at the worldwide box-office and was #1 at the domestic box-office for two weeks. The Iowa natives serve as executive producers on the film in addition to co-writing the screenplay with Mr. Krasinski.
“A Quiet Place” was named as a Top Ten Film of 2018 by the American Film Institute and the National Board of Review. Mr. Beck and Mr. Woods’ script earned them the Saturn Award for Best Writing, alongside nominations from the Writers Guild and the Critics Choice Awards, and was named one of the year’s ten best scripts by The Tracking Board Hit List. Variety went on to name the two Iowa natives to their annual 10 Screenwriters to Watch list.
