EICC to host “Exit Wounds: Soldiers’ Stories – Life After Iraq and Afghanistan”

Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) is hosting the traveling exhibition “Exit Wounds: Soldiers’ Stories – Life After Iraq and Afghanistan,” featuring the powerful photography and interviews of veterans returning home from war.

The exhibit opened to the public Monday, Sept. 9, and will run through Friday, Sept. 20, at EICC’s Scott Community College Urban Campus, 101 West Third St., Davenport.

Created by award-winning photographer and author Jim Lommasson, the exhibit captures the deeply personal stories of American soldiers as they reintegrate into civilian life after serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. The collection of images and narratives sheds light on the personal and emotional aftermath experienced by veterans and the civilians caught in conflict, according to a news release.

Mr. Lommasson, based in Portland, Oregon, is a renowned freelance photographer and author whose work focuses on the human stories behind conflict and its aftermath. His 2015 book, “Exit Wounds: Soldiers’ Stories – Life After Iraq and Afghanistan,” is at the heart of this exhibit, offering veterans a platform to share their experiences in their own words and images.

The exhibit is sponsored by: Eastern Iowa Community Colleges Foundation, Clinton Community College Foundation, Scott Community College Foundation, Muscatine Community College Foundation, St. Ambrose University Veteran Services, and Quad Cities Student Veterans’ Advocacy Group.
