Volunteers are urged to join River Action on Thursday, June 27, for a community cleanup of invasive species at Rock Island County’s new Amôwa Forest Preserve at 19500 Hubbard Road, East Moline.
River Action is hosting the 9 a.m. to noon event at which volunteers will remove invasive honeysuckle. The public is invited to come out and show support for the organization and the new forest preserve as well as learn how to identify and remove this invasive species.
Materials will be provided, but volunteers are urged to wear long pants and appropriate footwear.
Admission is free, but attendees are urged to RSVP by emailing [email protected].
River Action also notes that the site is somewhat steep, and for those who find that physical activity too strenuous there will be opportunities to work closer to the edge of the preserve.
The Amôwa Forest Preserve is a 172-acre property in East Moline. It provides space both for public use as well as for establishing critical pollinator habitat.
The preserve is named for the Sauk word for “bee,” and to honor the Sauk people by conserving the property and promoting biodiversity in the area.
