UnityPoint Health – Rock Island is hoping to inspire a new generation of health care workers.

The area hospital soon will host 33 United Township High School students for a two-day job shadow event beginning Wednesday, Sept. 27.

The group of juniors and seniors is interested in pursuing a career in health care, some of whom already have their Certified Nursing Assistant certification. Students will have the opportunity to job shadow and meet with team members in eight different hospital roles including medical lab scientist, radiology tech, certified medical assistant and ultrasound tech.

“Students may know they want to enter the field of health care but may not understand all the career choices that are available to them,” said Sammy Widener, regional talent acquisition manager at UnityPoint Health – Trinity. “At UnityPoint Health, we want to give students the opportunity to see firsthand what it’s like to work in a variety of health care roles and help them make good decisions.”

Students will be split into two groups, the first will job shadow in September and the second group in late October.

UnityPoint Health previously hosted seven seniors for a job shadow event back in February.
