The Silvis Fire Department Brotherhood is purchasing a 1939 American LaFrance Fire Engine that was once owned by the city from 1939 to 1964 and plans to restore it.

See the engine on display and help welcome it home during a 10 a.m. ceremony Saturday, July 29, at the Silvis Fire Station, 2010 10th St.

The old fire engine served as a front-line engine for Silvis for 25 years, responding to many fires in its tenure, according to a news release. City leaders call it a very important part of the history of the city and the fire department.

The Brotherhood plans to restore the engine to as close to like-new condition as possible.
