“Let’s start giving these people free cakes.”

With that announcement, Heather Sowards kicked off the grand opening events on Friday morning, April 21, for the new Nothing Bundt Cakes at 3923 41st Ave. No. 10, Moline.

The new cake bakery shop, which has actually been open for business for about two weeks, welcomed dozens of customers on Friday during the first hours of its two-day grand opening events.

“There has been such a sense of spirit, a sweet spirit, here. …The community has been very supportive of this business,” said Ms. Sowards, owner of the Nothing Bundt Cakes in Moline, and also its Davenport location at 3020 53rd St.

Friday’s grand opening events included a free confetti Bundtlet giveaway to the first 100 guests, as well as a Youth Hope Benefit Day with 20% of sales going to the organization. Grand opening activities will continue Saturday with another free confetti Bundtlet giveaway to the first 100 guests, as well as an appearance by the state champ Moline High School boys basketball team from 11a.m. to 1 p.m.

All the cake offerings were a hit with customers as about 20 people crowded into the shop just after its grand opening. Some of the cake offerings include lemon, carrot, classic vanilla, confetti, red velvet, chocolate chocolate chip and snickerdoodle.

Ms. Sowards told the crowd that her personal favorite is lemon. “But now I’m getting into the snickerdoodle mood,” she added.

On Friday, the crowd was buying all those flavors. Employees said the best-selling flavor is chocolate chocolate chip.

Nothing Bundt Cakes has about 32 employees between its two locations. Many of those employees were being kept very busy Friday morning. In addition to helping dozens of customers coming in the door, the back rooms of the business were also a hub of activity. For instance, Jose Trigueros, the baker for the shop, was busy making cakes by the dozens. Near him, Jaymica Hess was busy icing many of the Bundt cakes.

The new Nothing Bundt Cakes shop is located in a retail business building near the Moline Walmart and a door down from McAlister’s Deli. The cake bakery is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is (309) 581-1329.

“Our Bundt cakes are handcrafted in every bakery in a variety of delicious flavors and sizes. To top it all off, our bakeries offer a wide selection of retail items, including party supplies, decor and gifts, making Nothing Bundt Cakes the perfect one-stop celebration shop,” according to the company website.

In 1997, Dena and Debbie founded Nothing Bundt Cakes in their Las Vegas home kitchens, and it has since grown to more than 430 bakery locations in 40-plus states and Canada, offering a modern spin on a classic treat.

The Moline store is the second franchise in the Quad Cities, joining the Nothing Bundt Cakes franchise in Davenport.
