Seven area Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) professionals and one technical organization from across the Quad City region will be honored during an upcoming celebration.
The Quad City Engineering and Science Council (QCESC) will hold its 60th annual STEM celebration from 5-8:30 p.m. Feb. 24, at The Bend, 1100 Third St., East Moline.
The awards will pay tribute to science and engineering professionals, educators and volunteers whose achievements have helped technology, society and the profession. Also, STEM scholarships will be awarded to local high school seniors.
Jahmy J. Hindman, chief technical officer with Deere & Co., will be the keynote speaker at the annual event.
“The area has so many great individuals who are helping the profession and the community,” said Dan D’Alessandro, professional development coordinator with the QCESC. “These awards will help shine a spotlight on some of these great individuals.”
Award nominations are now being accepted and can be submitted at qcesc.org/awards-nominations-open-2-2/. Nomination deadline for the 2022 awards is Tuesday, Jan. 25.
Awards will be presented in these categories:
- Junior Engineer of the Year (under age 36 as of Dec. 31)
- Junior Scientist of the Year (under age 36 as of Dec. 31)
- Senior Engineer of the Year (36 or older as of Dec. 31)
- Lifetime Achievement Award
- STEM Teacher of the Year
- STEM Volunteer of the Year
- President’s Award of Merit
- Society of the Year
The QCESC is in its 60th year of operation as a non-profit, umbrella organization representing about 20 engineering, science and technical societies in the Quad Cities area with about 3,000 associated professional members.
The group’s goal is to promote and support engineering, science and technical professionals and associated societies in the Quad Cities region. It also encourages and supports students to study in STEM.
