Race week is here, and thousands of runners are getting ready at the start line.
The 52nd Quad-City Times Bix 7 race starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 25. However, before the big race day, thousands of people will be crowding into Davenport, Bettendorf and Moline for the several race-related events in the region.
Those events include:
- The Bechtel Trusts Senior Bix: This is a special race for walkers and runners who are aged 50 and over. This is a 1.5-mile course. The event starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, at the Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf, 1777 Isle Parkway, Bettendorf.
- The MercyOne Genesis Brady Street Sprint: This starts at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 23. The sprints event is a quarter-mile climb up Brady Street Hill.
- Running Wild Sports & Fitness Expo and packet pick-up event: The expo runs 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the RiverCenter South Hall, 136 E. Third St., Davenport. It features health, wellness, and running vendors, packet pick-up, and late registration.
- Hilltop Brady Street Party: This event will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 23, at the MLK Park in Davenport.
- John Deere Shakeout Run: This is a free, informal, two- to three-mile run taking place at 8 a.m. Friday, July 24, starting from the John Deere Pavilion in Moline.
- Bix Jazz and Family Jam: This event will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 24, at Kaiserslautern Square, Davenport. Kick off Bix Weekend with live jazz, local eats and family-friendly fun in the heart of downtown. This free event celebrates the musical legacy of Bix Beiderbecke with performances by the Ron Tegeler Jazz Trio and The Blackhawk Broadcasters, along with local food vendors and a variety of free family activities including caricatures, balloon art, face painting, magic and more.
- The Bix Beiderbecke Museum: The museum is celebrating its new location at 112 W. Second St., Davenport. and will be open 3 to 5 p.m. Friday.
- Bix Mix parties: Parties will start at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Keep the Bix weekend celebration going at the Bix Mix Street Party on West Third Street in Downtown Davenport. Enjoy live music, food, drinks and a lively atmosphere as this block party comes alive with race weekend energy.
- The Quad-City Times Bix 7 race day: Race day events on Saturday, July 25, will include the Bix 7 race starting at 8 a.m. This historic out-and-back course begins at the base of Brady Street Hill, featuring live bands, enthusiastic crowds, and a chance to “Run with the Best” alongside Olympic medalists and elite athletes, including legend Bill Rodgers. The day also includes the Quick Bix two-mile run or walk. The Quick Bix features live bands, entertainment, and the chip track timing system, sponsored by Prairie Farms. Other events on Saturday include the post-race party from 8 to 11 a.m., awards ceremony at 11 a.m. and age group awards at 11 a.m. at the R. Richard Bittner YMCA, 630 E. 4th St.
