The City of Davenport has named Major Greg Behning as its next police chief, effective Sunday, June 14. Major Behning has served as interim chief since the retirement of Jeffery Bladel in March.
The 31-year veteran of the department has served as assistant chief since August 2025. Throughout his career, he has worked in every division of the department and earned several commendations, including the Medal of Honor and the Combat Bar. He was also named American Legion Officer of the Year in 2012 and 2020.
As chief, Mr. Behning will lead a department of 167 sworn officers and 29 professional staff members. He is an active member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Iowa Chiefs of Police Association. He will be sworn in on Wednesday, June 17.
