ALEDO, Illinois – Residents, business owners, and community leaders are invited to a special evening of inspiration and insight – headlined by award-winning broadcaster Andrew McCrea – designed to deliver a message of excellence to Mercer County.

Hosted at the historic Aledo Opera House, 108 SE Second Ave., at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, “Discover the Extra in Mercer County” is a free event. It is designed to spark new ideas, strengthen local pride, and encourage individuals and businesses to elevate their impact on the community, a news release by the event organizers said.
The evening is sponsored by the Mercer County Forever Fund, a partner fund of the Moline Regional Community Foundation. According to the release, the program is expected to draw a wide audience including local entrepreneurs, civic leaders, nonprofit organizations and residents who are interested in the future of Mercer County. Award-winning storyteller
Mr. McCrea’s “American Countryside” is a nationally syndicated radio broadcast. It airs on Aledo radio station WRMJ every weekday at about 7:30 a.m. and 4:50 p.m. His half-hour “Farming the Countryside” airs on Saturday mornings at 7:30. Mr. McCrea has captured five Oscar in Agriculture awards from the National Association of Farm Broadcasting. A fifth-generation farmer and rancher, Mr. McCrea runs McCrea Family Farms in Maysville, Missouri, along with his father and son.
Andrew McCrea also has spent more than two decades traveling across the country. He shares stories of rural innovation, entrepreneurship, and resilience with his listeners.
He brings a unique and authentic perspective that resonates deeply with rural communities, the release said.
“This event is about helping people recognize the extraordinary potential that already exists right here in Mercer County,” Visit MerCo Chief Operating Officer Jennifer Hamerlinck said in the news release.
“Andrew’s message aligns perfectly with our work – celebrating local assets, supporting small businesses, and building a stronger, more connected community,” added Ms. Hemerlinck, who also is a Mercer County Forever Fund community member.
Attendees also will hear firsthand how going the extra mile can transform individual businesses and entire communities, organizers said.
