UnityPoint Health – Trinity is bringing back its in-person “Cooking with Heart for Diabetes” classes beginning in March.
The four-week, hands-on course is designed to support individuals with prediabetes, Type I, or Type II diabetes by emphasizing how nutrition can help manage blood sugar through food choices. The class will be led by UnityPoint Health nutrition experts. To register, visit unitypoint.org/cookingwithheart.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 29 million Americans – 12% of the population – have been diagnosed with diabetes, with an additional 115 million living with prediabetes.
“We’re proud to offer programs that empower people to take control of their health through nutrition,” Marli Apt, UnityPoint Health – Trinity community engagement manager and Cooking with Heart instructor. “Whether someone is looking to build a foundation for healthier eating or manage blood sugar through diabetes-friendly meals, participants gain confidence in the kitchen, learn practical skills and leave with habits that can make a real difference in their long-term health.”
Classes will be taught at the Cardiac Nutrition Center at Trinity Heart Center, 2701 17th St., Rock Island.
In addition, the “Cooking with Heart Foundational” class is also returning for anyone interested in moving toward more plant-focused eating. Participants will learn easy, flavorful recipes and essential cooking skills.
