MidAmerican Energy’s Neighborhood Power-Up program received a 2026 Inspiring Efficiency Innovation Award from the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA), the utility announced Tuesday, Feb. 3.
MEEA presented the award in the innovation category at last week’s Midwest Energy Solutions Conference in Chicago.
The Neighborhood Power-Up program focuses on improving energy efficiency and lowering energy costs for homes, small businesses and multi-family housing in areas of Iowa and Illinois with significant low-income and energy-burdened residents.
“We appreciate being honored alongside organizations that share our dedication to advancing energy efficiency,” Erin Rasmussen, MidAmerican director of energy efficiency, said. “This program demonstrates that when we collaborate with our customers and communities, energy efficiency becomes more accessible and helps maintain low energy costs.”
MEEA recognized the program for its innovative, community-based approach. It offers free energy assessments, and energy-saving items. It includes enhanced incentives on energy-efficient equipment to homeowners, renters and businesses.
The pilot project launched in Rock Island in 2024 and moved to Sioux City, Iowa, in 2025. Planning is currently underway to launch the program in Waterloo, Iowa, this year.
“By tailoring energy solutions to neighborhoods in need, (MidAmerican has) created a scalable model for equity-driven efficiency,” said Paige Knutsen, executive director of MEEA.
