WQPT to air star-studded public television tribute Nov. 27

    WQPT PBS will premiere a new three-hour program, “WE đź–¤ PUBLIC TELEVISION!” at 7 p.m. Thanksgiving evening, Nov. 27.

    The special, taped at PBS SoCal’s Burbank studios on Nov. 8, honors 55 years of public television. It features a star-studded cast celebrating the cultural richness offered by public media and local PBS stations.

     

    “WE đź–¤ PUBLIC TELEVISION!” will include live musical performances, celebrity appearances, viewer testimonials and archival material from iconic shows such as “Masterpiece,” “Austin City Limits,” “Great Performances,” and “Sesame Street.”

    The program features music director Rickey Minor and appearances by Josh Groban, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ken Burns, Ziggy Marley, Lily Tomlin, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Marlee Matlin, Noel Paul Stookey, Rick Steves, David Foster and Katharine McPhee, Adam Arkin, Courtney B. Vance, Martha Plimpton, Bill Nye the Science Guy, Joe Bonamassa, Sheléa, Jesse Cook, Judy Blume, Celtic Woman, Mychal the Librarian and Lindsey Stirling, among others.

    It also includes special performances taped at the Nashville PBS studios featuring Kathy Mattea, Sierra Hull, Molly Tuttle and Ketch Secor.

    The program will be available on the free PBS App from Nov. 27 to Dec. 24. Viewers can download the app at WQPT.org/watch.
