CLINTON, Iowa — Clausen Companies has been recognized with a Patriot Award from the Iowa Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) for its support of the military.

Clausen Companies was nominated by one of its employees who is one of two Guard members currently deployed.

The Patriot Award honors individual supervisors for exemplary support of employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve or their spouses. Recognized efforts include flexible scheduling, time off before and after deployment, family care assistance, and granting leaves of absence as needed.

“Since our company (Clausen Supply & Trucking) was founded, it has always been our mission to recruit and retain top talent. In doing so, we have supported several members of the Guard and Reserve over the years,” Pete Clausen, owner of Clausen Companies, said in a news release.

“Not only do we value the individual commitment to the growth and success of our business, but we also honor their commitment to the ongoing defense of our country. It’s part of our culture, and that action will never waver,” he added.

Supporters gathered at Clausen Companies’ main office at 2200 S. 21st St., for the ESGR award presentation Monday, Sept. 29. Guests included representatives from Grow Clinton, the Grow Clinton Ambassadors in their signature red jackets, and staff from First Central State Bank.

The presentation was led by David Ottavianelli, chairman of the Iowa ESGR and an Army veteran, who thanked Clausen Companies for its ongoing support of Guard and Reserve members both stateside and while deployed.

Clinton County, Iowa, has a strong tradition of supporting veterans, active-duty military, and Guard and Reserve members. Through Clinton County’s Home Base Iowa initiative, qualifying veterans relocating to local communities may receive a home closing cost reimbursement of $1,500 and access to the Iowa Finance Authority’s Military Homeownership Assistance Program of up to $5,000 (subject to availability).

ESGR is a Department of Defense program that promotes cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers, and assists in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee’s military commitment.
