Quad Citians are invited to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Vibrant Arena at the Mark in downtown Moline.
The event opens at 8 a.m. with check-in, networking and vendors. A Promise Garden opening ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. with the walk following immediately. There will be post walk refreshments afterwards. To register or volunteer to help, click this link.
The Walk to End Alzheimer‘s is the world’s largest event dedicated to Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. Participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with a Promise Garden Ceremony, where the flower colors – purple, yellow, blue and orange – represent different reasons for walking to end the disease.
There is no registration fee, but participants are encouraged to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Association programs and research. This year’s goal is $158,000, with nearly $60,000 already raised through sponsorships and participant fundraising.
More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, a leading cause of death in the United States. In Iowa and Illinois, more than 310,000 people are living with the disease, and nearly 400,000 caregivers provide support.
