A new bar that will feature a golf simulator and an outdoor patio is scheduled to open in downtown Bettendorf in mid October, according to the business owner.
State 18 will be at 1740 State St., which is at the corner of State and 18th streets near Trattoria Tiramisu restaurant. Renovation work to convert the 2,500-square-foot industrial building into the new bar is expected to be in full swing this week.
“We are in the construction phase now,” said owner Jason Sturtevant, who also owns Bettendorf Kitchen & Bath.
Some of the work being done this week or in the near future includes concrete work, siding the back of the building, installing a putting turf in a golf area outside of the building, painting, hanging TVs and many other jobs. One of the major renovations to the building – a 550-square-foot addition on the back – is already complete.
If all goes according to plan, all the projects will be done in about a month, and the business will open with about five employees.
The State 18 project is expected to be about a $500,000 investment, Mr. Sturtevant estimated.
His plans to start the State 18 business began a few years ago. He had rented the building for about four years and used it as a workshop for his Bettendorf Kitchen & Bath business.
Then when the building came up for sale, he decided to buy it because he was impressed with the amount of traffic that goes by the building on State Street every day. He also knows that golf is a popular activity in Bettendorf, so it seemed like a good move to open a bar with a golf simulator.
“We have a lot going on in the next month, but I can see the light,” Mr. Sturtevant added.
