“We have gone solar.”
Zimmerman Honda officials made that announcement on Thursday, March 7, on the company’s Facebook page to celebrate the installation of solar panels on the Zimmerman Honda dealership at 7030 44th Ave., Moline.
A celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony were held at the business Thursday to debut the solar grid system that includes almost 700 solar panels on the roof of the vehicle dealership building.

“The new 690-panel grid will power about 98% of the dealership. We are excited to reduce our carbon footprint. Thank you to our partner Eagle Point Solar,” the company said on the Zimmerman Honda Facebook page.
The solar panels will save the dealership more than $1 million over the next 25 years. The solar system is a 282.9 Kw DC system and was installed last year, Eagle Point Solar officials said.
“Investing in commercial solar is a strategic decision that has proved to have numerous benefits for business owners. Whether you own a small business or a large commercial operation, solar can provide immediate and long-term savings for decades with minimal maintenance, upgrades, or future investment requirements,” according to information from Eagle Point Solar.
Here are some of the details about Zimmerman Honda’s solar panel project:
- Each solar panel weighs 90 pounds.
- The solar panels are expected to save the company about $27,000 in utility bills in the first year.
- The solar system consists of two solar edge inverters and 45 optimizers.
- The system’s installation was completed late last year.
- Zimmerman Honda leaders said they believe this is the largest solar array in the area.
