
CLINTON, Iowa — The Association of Wa-Tan-Ye Clubs, the first women’s service organization in the United States, will celebrate Wa-Tan-Ye Week from Monday through Friday, May 19-23.
Founded in 1921 in Mason City, Iowa, by businesswoman Marie Barow, the organization prides itself on its long history and “Service Foremost” motto.
The Clinton Wa-Tan-Ye Club focuses on community improvement through volunteer work, financial assistance, and support for local initiatives. Members contribute time and energy to projects such as community beautification, aiding local organizations, and assisting the elderly and individuals with disabilities.
Local projects of the Clinton club include college scholarships for high school seniors, collecting personal hygiene items for those in need, hosting an annual Hopes in Action dinner, providing rotating monetary support to local libraries, and organizing a Friendship Brunch to encourage membership.
