The Quad Cities and beyond should be taking notice and appreciating that one of its corporate gems is continuing to grow and thrive.

Von Maur is investing more than $100 million over the next five years to complete an extensive, multi-phased renovation of a majority of its brick-and-mortar stores. And its popular, contemporary Dry Goods retailer, is continuing its national expansion with plans to open five new locations by the end of 2024, according to QCBJ news articles.

Von Maur is a family-owned department store company with its headquarters and an e-commerce center in Davenport, where the company began more than 150 years ago. Today Von Maur operates 37 stores in 15 states. The Dry Goods brand name pays homage to the original Von Maur Dry Goods founded in 1872 in downtown Davenport.

The boutique retailer announced on Thursday, June 13, that the expansion also will mark the Dry Goods subsidiary’s entrance into three new states — Delaware, New Jersey and Virginia.

“We are thrilled with Dry Goods’ continued success as we introduce the brand to new, fashion-forward shoppers in these exciting markets,” Melody Wright, Von Maur’s chief operating officer, said in a news release. “As we continue to expand into new states, we look forward to sharing our store with even more customers. Our goal is always to provide updated, on-trend clothing and accessories that allow shoppers to show their personal style at an accessible price.”

The new market locations will include: Cherry Hill Mall in Cherry Hills, New Jersey; Christiana Mall in Newark, Delaware; and Short Pump Town Center in Richmond, Virginia. In addition, Dry Goods will open one of its new locations this month at Hamilton Place in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and it opened another in April at Ross Park Mall in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

When all five new stores are opened, Dry Goods USA — a subsidiary of Von Maur — will have increased its presence to 84 store locations in 24 states. Among the other locations are Dry Goods stores at Davenport’s NorthPark Mall as well as Coralville, Cedar Rapids and West Des Moines in Iowa and Peoria, Illinois.

What we appreciate is that Von Maur is not only investing in new brands, but it is doubling down to improve existing stores.

“As Von Maur has grown, new stores have evolved to reflect the trends present in residential design,” Jim von Maur, the company’s president, said in a Thursday, May 2, news release announcing the renovation plan. “It is important that we reinvest in our existing locations and bring those same updates to the customers that have been the bedrock of our success.”

We applaud the von Maur’s for their continued growth. Their success is something that we certainly appreciate. Well done.
