River Action is seeking volunteers to assist with the re-branded Ride the Island event on Arsenal Island planned for Father’s Day, Sunday, June 15.

Volunteers are needed to greet bicycle riders at 12 designated landmarks on the island. These interactive stops include: the Mississippi River Visitor Center, 1856 Bridge Pier, Colonel Davenport House, Quarters One, Rock Island Arsenal Museum, the RIA’s new golf pro shop, Memorial Park & Field, September 11 Memorial, Grave of T. J. Rodman, R.I. Confederate Cemetery, Hydroelectric Power Dam, and the Clock Tower Building.

Volunteers will add stars to each rider’s license plate as they visit each landmark. Riders with the most stars will be eligible for prizes at the end of the event.

Volunteers will work three-hour shifts between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Volunteers can expect to learn about the history of the island and the U.S. Army. Maps, directions, parking information, and details for picking up a volunteer T-shirt will be provided.

To volunteer, sign up at www.riveraction.org/volunteer or call River Action’s office at (563) 322-2969.
