UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island and Bettendorf received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain – MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2024.

Trinity Rock Island and Bettendorf are two of only 259 hospitals nationwide to receive this award.

The award recognizes UnityPoint HealthTrinity’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients. It also signifies that the hospital has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and Recommendations.

“Heart disease continues to top the Quad Cities’ list of health care concerns, causing the deaths of nearly 25% of adults in our community – we believe that’s too many,” Kathy Pulley, director of cardiology services at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Heart Center, said in a news release.

“Receiving this recognition reflects the dedication, commitment and expertise of our highly skilled team, who ensure those suffering a heart attack receive the highest level of care right here at home.”

To receive the Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award, Trinity Rock Island and Bettendorf have demonstrated sustained achievement in the Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry for two consecutive years (2022 and 2023) and performed at the highest level for specific performance measures.

Full participation in the registry engages hospitals in a robust quality improvement process using data to drive improvements in adherence to guideline recommendations and overall quality of care provided to heart attack patients.

Trinity ‘thrilled’ with honor

“We are thrilled to offer this level of quality heart care to the communities we serve,” Jeff Carstens, MD, MBA, FACC – Cardiovascular Service Line Medical Director, UnityPoint Health, said in the release.

“Our vision has always been to provide the best outcome to every patient, every time and we are thankful for these awards that show we are reaching our goals.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that more than 800,000 Americans suffer a heart attack each year. A heart attack occurs when a blood clot in a coronary artery partially or completely blocks blood flow to the heart muscle.

Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry empowers health care provider teams to consistently treat heart attack patients according to the most current, science-based guidelines and establishes a national standard for understanding and improving the quality, safety and outcomes of care provided for patients with coronary artery disease, specifically high-risk heart attack patients.
