Breast cancer incidence rates have increased slightly by about 0.6% per year, but the rate is increasing more rapidly in women under 50. UnityPoint Health – Trinity wants to ensure more women have access to life-saving screenings by expanding mammogram services.

Throughout the month of October, UnityPoint Health – Trinity will offer mammograms on Saturdays and introduce Walk-in Wednesdays to make it easier for women to prioritize their breast health.

Hours are as follows:

  • Saturdays in October from 7:30 to 11:45 a.m. at Trinity Bettendorf and Trinity Moline (Appointments required)
  • Wednesday walk-ins in October from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Trinity Moline. (Screenings are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis)

“We are committed to making breast cancer screenings as accessible as possible, especially during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, when we work to educate the community about early detection,” says Melinda Hass, MD, Medical Director of Trinity Breast Center. “These extended hours will allow women with busy schedules to find a time that works best for them.”

Early detection key

About one in eight women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer in their life. Annual mammograms can detect breast cancer in its early stages, often before symptoms arise. It’s recommended that screenings start at age 40, or sooner, if you’re at a higher risk for breast cancer. Women should also complete monthly self-breast exams to note changes in the look or feel of the breast. Report changes to your healthcare provider and call to schedule an examination.

“Breast cancer is most treatable when caught early, and routine mammograms are the key to early detection,” Dr. Hass said. “We want to make sure every woman has the opportunity to access this important screening.”

Trinity Breast Center has been recognized as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology for nearly 15 years. The center uses state-of-the-art technology, including digital mammography, to screen and diagnose breast health issues. With services spanning both sides of the river, Trinity Breast Health Center brings comprehensive, compassionate care to women, close to home.
