
GENESEO, Illinois – The 17th annual Trains, Planes & Automobiles event will roar into this western Illinois community from Thursday to Saturday, Sept. 7-9.
This year’s event will feature a model train display, WWII Stearman Bi-Planes, a guided historic golf cart tour of the Hennepin Canal, a locomotive parked in downtown Geneseo as well as music and one of the largest annual car shows in Illinois. The show boasts more than 300 classic cars.
Most events in the celebration have free admission.
The lineup includes:
- Stearman Bi-Plane Fly-In at Gen-Air Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 7.
- Cruise the Canal from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8. Enjoy historic guided tours of the Hennepin Canal. Reservations are required and cost $20 per person which iIncludes golf cart (driven by you) and a guided tour of the canal. Cart drivers must have a valid driver’s license. Limit two people per cart. Tours depart from Lock 24 (north of Geneseo on North Chicago Street/Grange Road) at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tours will travel west to Lock 26 and last approximately 90 minutes. - Trains, Planes and Automobiles Car Show hosted by the Maple City Cruisers, downtown Geneseo, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9. The show is free but donations are accepted.
- Events on Saturday, Sept. 9 include: Geneseo Model Railroaders Model Train Display at Geneseo Communications building; food vendors; Erie RC Club Model Plane Display at Central Bank Pavilion; Salute to Veterans at noon in downtown; Trophy Awards and drawing of Geneseo Chamber of Commerce’s annual 50/50 raffle at 2 p.m.
