The Landing Ice Rink, 2255 Middle Road, Bettendorf, is almost ready for skaters.
Opening day for the new facility will be Sunday, Dec. 15. It will be open from noon to 6 p.m. A ribbon-cutting and tree lighting ceremony will be at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec.16.
The Landing Ice Rink is nearly 40% larger than the City of Bettendorf’s former temporary ice rink. It also is part of a transformational project in the city’s center – at the corner of Middle Road and 23rd Street – which also includes a state-of-the-art aquatic facility that will open in early summer 2025.
In addition to an 11,000-square-foot ice rink, The Landing features several new buildings that will provide climate-controlled restrooms, concessions, and warming areas as well as outdoor gas firepits with seating.
“This is truly a project for the community and supported by the community,” Bettendorf City Administrator Decker Ploehn said in a news release. “We thank our design engineering firm of RDG and their partners, our construction partner General Constructors, Inc. (GCI) for their hard work, and we’re extremely grateful for all the donors who helped make this monumental project possible.”
“The Landing Ice Rink is going to be a special place where families and friends gather to make memories, enjoy the outdoors, learn new skills, and most importantly – have fun,” Bettendorf Mayor Bob Gallagher said in the release.
