The Arc of the Quad Cities Area is celebrating disability pride this month with several events for its clients and supporters.

The Arc, founded in 1952, has the mission to empower people with disabilities to believe in their own abilities and achieve their full potential by providing quality, innovative services that focus on inclusion, advocacy, independence, employment, meaningful community life and personal happiness.

First, the organization is celebrating with a Pick-a-Date fundraiser where supporters can pick a date and help secure people’s access to their community. All proceeds support The Arc’s important work. More information is available at their website here.

Based at 4016 9th St., Rock Island, The Arc also is participating in Disabilities Awareness Night on Friday, Aug. 8, at Modern Woodmen Park in conjunction with the Quad Cities Disability Awareness Coalition. The coalition is a group of organizations dedicated to increasing access, inclusion, and empowerment for people with disabilities around the Quad Cities.

The game begins at 6:30 p.m. People are asked to bring donated food items to the ballpark on Saturday, July 26, and receive a ticket voucher for any 2025 River Bandits home game. Go here to buy tickets.

This month commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was signed into law on July 26, 1990. The ADA is a landmark law that protects the rights of people with disabilities and ensures equal access to public life. The law helps remove both physical and hidden barriers to community.

In its news release, The Arc said people with disabilities are an important part of our community. When everyone is included, our whole community becomes stronger and better for all. Community is essential for supporting all people and is essential for gaining confidence and finding camaraderie with others.
