Tapestry Farms invites the community to gather for its first-ever Harvest Moon Celebration, an evening of music, poetry, and traditional Arabic sweets in support of refugees rebuilding their lives in the Quad Cities.

It will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 121 W. 12th St., Davenport. Tickets begin at $50. Find more information about the Harvest Moon Celebration or to purchase tickets here

The performance will feature lyric soprano Claire Kuttler with collaborative pianist Chris Nelson. They are professional musicians and supporters of Tapestry Farms’ mission to invest in the lives of refugees who have settled in the Quad Cities.

Musical selections will include songs centered on the themes of the moon, harvest, and home such as Song to the Moon by Antonín Dvořák, Homeward Bound by Paul Simon, Simple Gifts by Aaron Copland, and Turn, Turn, Turn by Pete Seeger.

“Tapestry Farms has a beautiful mission: food, harvest, home. Music weaves in and out of all these aspects of life, crossing miles and cultures,” said Ms. Kuttler. “Offering what I can in the form of this concert to support this wonderful organization feels like mission and purpose to me as an artist. I can’t wait to share this music with you all and to collaborate with my wonderful friend, Chris Nelson, under the bright harvest moon.”

Tapestry Farms is a nonprofit urban farm system in the Quad Cities that supports refugees and combats food insecurity. The organization uses a multi-pronged approach that includes urban farming, resource navigation, and community building to help refugees connect, contribute, and thrive in their new home.

    Program highlights

    Evening highlights will include:

    • A performance by Claire Kuttler, lyric soprano and Davenport native now based in New York City. She performs on national stages like the Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall.
    • The musical skills of Chris Nelson, organist and music director at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport and organ instructor at Augustana College.
    • Poetry read by Tapestry Farms men and women inspired by themes of harvest, gratitude, and community
    • Traditional Arabic desserts prepared by Tapestry Farms’ Fatima Hussein.

All proceeds will benefit Tapestry Farms’ work to connect with refugees and neighbors in a shared hope of joyful, healthy lives – where every person has access to the resources they need to live well.

“The Harvest Moon Celebration is a gathering of gratitude, culture, and connection,” said Ann McGlynn, founder and executive director of Tapestry Farms. “Every ticket purchased directly supports families served by Tapestry Farms as they build new lives in our community.”
