Still time to donate to an Edger for Big Brothers Big Sisters

Today, Aug. 17, marks the final day to donate to be counted for the Top Fundraiser awards for this year’s Over The Edge, a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters that sends volunteers rappelling down 11 stories at the Hotel Blackhawk in downtown Davenport.

Now in its fifth year, the event enlists volunteers – or Edgers as they’re called – to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley (BBBSMV) in order to earn their spot to descend from the roof of the Blackhawk. This year’s field includes 100 brave volunteers, who now have less than 24 hours left to fundraise to meet their goal or become a Top Fundraiser.

Each individual Edger is challenged to raise a minimum of $1,000 to rappel; Daring Duos, a two-person team who combine their efforts, commit to raising a total of $1,750; A Fearless Leader Team raises a minimum of $2,000 to go over – plus $750 for each additional rappeler.

To see all the event participants who have volunteered and to make an Over The Edge donation, visit www.overtheedgeqc.org.

Over The Edge is BBBSMV‘s largest  fundraiser of the year. The total raised for this year’s event has exceeded $135,000 or 85% of the goal of $158,000. Donations can be made until Wednesday, Aug. 31, but late donations will not count toward the Top Fundraiser awards.

Over The Edge will begin with a VIP Night from  4-7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 26, at which 11 people (media, sponsors and VIPs) will rappel down the hotel. Then on Saturday, Aug. 27, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., another 87 people will go Over The Edge – for a total of 98 scaling down the 11-story hotel (140 feet high) at 200 E. 3rd St., Davenport.

Music, food, beverages and seating will be available for spectators to view this incredible event.

Donations can also be made on event day. The event is free to watch. The event is presented by Active Endeavors and Bank of America.

All proceeds go to support BBBSMV’s programming. The organization serves more than 600 children a year, matching each child (age 5-17) who is facing some kind of adversity with an adult mentor who helps to ignite the potential that is within these children.

BBBSMV raises nearly $150,000 each year from the Over The Edge event.
