Thrivent Financial Advisors Thomas Brooke and Lillie Huhndorf, based in Davenport, will host an educational workshop focused on helping Quad Cities families navigate the complex financial and support decisions involved in planning for individuals with special needs.

The Thursday, April 16, session will be led by Hannah Magrum, a Chartered Special Needs Consultant (ChSNC) and Thrivent financial advisor. She specializes exclusively in special needs planning and is emerging as a national voice in this space and has lent her expertise to major media outlets including Newsweek and Investopedia.

Participants can join an in-person watch party at 5:30 p.m., April 16, at the Last Picture House in downtown Davenport, or a virtual session at noon April 16. The event is open to the public. To reserve a spot, email [email protected] with your name and indicate which event you plan to attend.

With both professional experience and personal insight as a parent of a child with special needs and an ambulatory wheelchair user, Ms. Magrum focuses on helping families understand how financial decisions can directly impact access to critical benefits and long-term support.

“Many families don’t realize how interconnected financial planning and public benefits are,” she said in a news release. “Even well-intentioned decisions can have unintended consequences if they’re not made with the full picture in mind.”

The workshop will offer practical, easy-to-understand guidance around topics such as:

    • Medicaid and Medicare considerations.
    • Special needs trusts and ABLE accounts.
    • Planning for long-term care and independence.
    • Available state, local, and federal resources.
    • The role of financial planning in protecting benefits.
    • Education planning considerations (IEP vs. 504 plans).
    • Tax considerations related to special needs planning.

This event is educational in nature, and no products will be sold. It is intended for families, caregivers, educators, and community members seeking clarity around the often-overlooked complexities of special needs planning.
