Some Quad-City families and teens are just getting off the streets and into stable housing as winter weather looms. A roof over their heads is a start, but a comfortable bed to lay down their head is a necessity that many of us take for granted.
Slumberland Furniture is collaborating with the Bethany for Children & Families group to provide gifts of bed sets to dozens this holiday season through its annual “Making Homes for the Holidays Program.”
The furniture store, with locations in both Davenport, and Moline, is donating 62 mattress sets.
The items will be loaded into a truck at Slumberland’s Davenport location, 616 E Kimberly Road, at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 20.
“It’s a great feeling to be able to give the gift of a good night’s sleep,” said Slumberland owner Lee Kerr.
Christina McNamara, director of development and communication for Bethany, added: “This generous gift will warm the hearts and homes of more than 60 people in the Quad Cities this
holiday season. Bethany will work with agency caseworkers to distribute the beds to clients in our homeless and child welfare programs.”
Founded in 1899, Bethany for Children & Families is a non-profit child welfare, mental health, community education, and social services provider for children and families in western Illinois and eastern Iowa. Offering more than 30 programs and services, Bethany serves more than 15,000 children and families annually.
